Kamakhya Vidyalaya, Maligaon, Guwahati

"I never teach my pupils. I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn."
--Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)

To tell something about the school Kamakhya Vidyalaya , it starts and ends with the teachers of the school. Since its establishment in the year 1959, the teachers of Kamakhya Vidyalaya are providing the best of the ecosystem to their students and making them successful in life.

In the vicinity of Neelachal Hill in greater Maligaon area of Guwahati-Assam, Kamakhya Vidyalaya is one of the best school in Assam. This is a high school in Bengali Medium affiliated under Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA). Kamakhya Vidyalay is one such platform that changes the entire life with a magic stick. The magic behind it, is the hard work of teachers and the good education system provided by them.

So far it has given uncountable successful scholars in different fileds e.g. Research, Engineering, Medical, Law & Subject Matters (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English, Bengali etc)

Regarding infrastructure you cannot compare it with today's multistoried buildings specially designed for private school but it is well planned in a triangular shaped land with class-rooms, teacher's common room & cabin, auditorium, canteen etc. Kamakhya Vidyalay always boast of its scholar students not the infrastructure it has.

The history of Kamakhya Vidayalay in itself is an example to all those who are the devotees of education. In the year 1959 with few students Mrs.Snehalata Sengupta started the school in a railway quarter in Central Gotanagar, Maligaon. Her relentless effort for the school immediately attracted the attention and helping hand of some devotees of education in that area. e.g. Mr.Anil Khastagir, Mr.Sudhir Kumar Nug, Mr.D.L.Roy and Mr.Kamakhya Chowdhury. With their coordination and support the school than started operating from Junior Railway Institute, Central Gotanagar.

Than the students started growing and so is the requirement for larger space, so the school was relocated to its current destination. It will be incomplete if it is not mentioned here that, some middle-aged volunteers with their own hand levelled the school premises and constructed bamboo-made rooms for the school initially, some even raised funds by performing play for development of the school. Today, the names of many such "Karmayogis" are not available to the writer of this article but we all take this opportunity to show our gratitude towards them, we all salute them.

After Mrs.Snehalata Sengupta, Mr.Rabindra Kumar Mitra took charge of the school. A triple MA from Dhaka University, a thorough gentleman with a simple look but extraordinary knowledge base inculcated the best of the value system amongst the students of the school.

Lots of Letter Marks, Star Marks & Distinction holder students are the products of Kamakhya Vidyalaya. It has also given to the society few students who have secured positions in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination in Assam.

"The real wealth of a good gardener is not his salary, but the marvelous flowers he is raising in the garden"- Mehmet Murat ildan

Kamakhya Vidyalaya went to its highest fame during the era of Mr.Anil Som , a President Award winner. A great combination of Principle, Discipline & Punctuality along with a great skill of maneuvering children's mind towards the same direction. His effort brought in maximum pride for the school as well as given maximum output to the society in terms of successful students.

The above mentioned fact is well supported by data. Its result in the H.S.L.C Examination and Scholarship Examinations at Primary and Middle School levels are quite noteworthy. Since, the year 1982 the percentage of pass-outs at H.S.L.C. Examination was never below 96% excepting 1983. While the average pass-out percentage of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam was struggling to cross 30%, Kamakhya Vidyalaya always came out with flying colours in the H.S.L.C Examination. The results in the year 1984, 1989 and 1991 is worth mentioning here, it was 100% pass-out in the H.S.L.C. Examination in those years.

Nurturing of the young minds in the school starts everyday early in the morning. Apart from singing the National Anthem, Kamakhya Vidyalaya has its own unique identity i.e. the "Daily Promise" each and every student make every day. In few lines it reminds the student everyday their duties towards the Nation, teachers, parents, elders and society. This remain with the students for the rest of their life.
